Springer Spaniels Think They Are Human

Springer Spaniels as a breed of dog are very intelligent and learn things fast. Being highly enthusiastic, eager to please, loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented makes the Springer an ideal companion for both city and country life. Many owner find humor in their energetic and playful animals that bring a smile to their faces. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are wonderful with children and are a perfect choice for families. Of course as with any dog breed, children should always be supervised to make sure they are not antagonizing the dog.

The Springer brand of dogs are generally friendly and always looking to make their owners happy. Their temperment has been compared to the popular Golden Retriever. If it is what their families are doing, they are perfectly content with just laying around the house. As long as they are allowed to people with people, they are flexible and acclimate easily to different activity levels. As a breeder we have raised many puppies and we can personally definitely testify to their high levels of affection!

A full grown English Springer Spaniel weighs 35-55 pounds and is an excellent sporting dog. They are typically healthy dogs that live happy lives that average about 10-14 years on average. Springers which are field bred have shorter hair and are generally more active than the show type Springers. All Springers have their tails docked shortly after birth, but the length of the tail differs between two “lifestyles.” The tails are docked shorter for Springers who are shown, whereas the working, field-bred Springers have longer tails so as to be an efficient signal for hunting.

English Springer Spaniels generally have two different variations of colored fur which are either black and white or liver and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. They are also known for having a white blaze on their faces usually down the middle.

If you need a good hunting dog, with plenty of energy, who is ready to sniff out some ‘game’, English Springer Spaniels are the breed for you. Springers are happy to spend all day outside with their masters, they love water and are not particularly sensitive to weather in general. Being a very old breed they have been popular dogs for a long, long time. These dogs are the oldest but best hunting breed around.

Hopefully, you can understand the reasons that we believe Springers are a good option for a variety of lifestyles. We have seen how easily these adoring animals are accepted as a part of any family.
