Anxiety and Depression – A Combined Syndrome

Anxiety disorders are more common than you would believe. They are, as a matter of fact, the most common of all mental health conditions that affect the population. However it happens, depressive conditionsproblems}, the ones that affect the most people, come second to only anxiety disorders, and wherever they appear in people, they shadow anxiety disorders closely. Doctors often discover that the one problem will often turn up with the other. Two burdens at the same time – that would be difficult for anyone to bear. It is never easy to tell which of the two comes first either. But whichever way it goes, treating the one, often makes it easy to treat the other as well.

Some folks are genetically disposed to answering to life events in one of these two ways. Since anxiety attacks and sadness are sometimes the normal form expected in certain situations, people who endure chronic versions of these, find it hard to tell the distinction. Are they just sad in the regular way, or do they remain in this way for no real cause? The lack of conclusiveness they may feel here can often be aggravated by another issue. Those who are anxious and depressed, frequently pass a very introverted and self-aware life. And there is some pride associated to the degree of personal honesty and self-knowledge they accomplish. When you see that you are capable of mustering such painstaking analytical care, you might find it impossible to believe that there could be anything wanting in your mind.

But being too close to yourself removes your aptness to have perspective. You would be surprised how effortlessly a pschiatric professional could take apart the illusion that your personal knowledge is perfect or up to the task. Depression can often express itself in a range of physical ways too. Often, anxiety can express itself as an endocrine problem. But anxiety and depression, are eminently curable, and quickly too. People carry this impression that they just give you a few drugs to unnaturally make you buoyant, and they contemptuously, equate them with the mood lightening action of alcohol or recreational drugs. Psychiatry doesn’t merely “treat” these conditions the way alcohol does though. It cures anxiety and depression well enough for the survivors to go on to live well help others around them.
